We’re incredibly proud of what Sightsavers achieved throughout 2022. By the end of the year, all of our programmes were back up and running following the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the course of the year, we conducted 8.8 million eye examinations – a 36% increase from 2021.
We performed more than half a million operations and delivered eye health solutions to more than 780,000 people. We exceeded our treatment delivery targets for neglected tropical diseases, distributing more than 135 million treatments, and reaching an estimated 87 million people. And we witnessed an incredible achievement in Malawi – the elimination of trachoma.
2022 wasn’t without challenges, particularly in our fundraising efforts. Several significant events continued to affect charitable giving, including the war in Ukraine and the cost-of-living crisis. Despite this, the total income of the organisation in 2022 increased by 32% compared to 2021.
